Lantang North Local Government Area of Plateau State was on Thursday closed by irate workers who were protesting non-payment of salaries.
The workers said their decision to shut down the secretariate was informed by the non-payment of their salaries for more than four months.
One of the workers who spoke to Punch on the condition of anonymity said, ”Early morning today (Thursday), Local Government staff of Langtang North LGA in large numbers embarked on a peaceful demonstration to register their grievances over non-payment of six months salary by the Local Government Management team.
“The council secretariat was closed under the instruction of the National Union of Local Government Employees. All offices were closed, both local and federal, including the judiciary offices.
She added, “Roads leading in and out of Langtang North were also closed for several hours and we are not ready to stop the protest unless the government acts on our demands.”

The development was also confirmed by the President of NULGE in the state, Makwi Yohanna.
He said, “I don’t blame the workers because a hungry man is an angry man.
“How do you expect them to be happy when the workers have not been paid for more than four months? It is not as if the money is not there. From our investigation, the money for the payment of the workers’ salaries is intact.
“But the situation is calm now and we are appealing to the Ministry of Local Government to intervene in the matter so that all encumbrances, including court injunction stopping the payments of the salaries to the workers, are resolved.”
