Nigerians are experiencing an unofficial fuel price hike as numerous filling stations have increased their pump prices from the regulated N165. The hike in price is confirmed to be rampant in the city of Abuja and Lagos.
African News Today gathered information that certain petrol stations sell their product for N220 per litre.
Even amongst the hike, some stations refused to sell leading to a scarcity of petrol in some areas.
In Lagos, filling stations such as Ardova and MRS filling stations located along Lekki Expressway sold at the price of N180 and N200 per litre.

A motorist purchased petrol at Remdabson in Ikorodu at N200 per litre on Friday. He disclosed to our reporters that he waited 5 hours in the rain to fuel his vehicle.
In Abuja, few stations sold at the properly regulated price, while other petrol stations sold as high as N235 a litre.
Oil marketers commented on the recent hike, saying the increase in the transportation of the product due to the diesel price hike is what led to the increase of PMS commonly known as premium motor spirit.
The Chairman of Lagos Satellite Depot of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Akin Akinrinade, had this to say about the hike in petrol price;
“For you to load a litre of petrol, you will pay N162. You will have to add the cost of transportation, which is between N6 and N8, depending on the distance within Lagos. If it is outside Lagos, it is much more than that”
