As part of its preparations for the 2018 World Cup starting in Russia on June 14, the Nigerian Super Eagles lost by 2:1 to the English team in a friendly match played at the Wembly stadium.

The English team took off to a quick start with a 7 minute goal headed in by Gary Cahill. They controlled the entire first half, missing a number of goals and then netting a second goal in the 39th through a Harry Kane shot.

At the start of the second half, Nigeria made four changes, bringing in Etebo, Ogu, Ebuehi and Omeruo. Nigeria immediately took control of the second half and got a goal in the 47th minute when Iwobi nicely placed the ball beyond the reach of the English goal stopper after it rebounded off the upright from an Ighalo shot.

The second half was a more balanced affair, with Nigeria playing with more purpose and coordination and the English team sitting back a bit more.

The Nigerian Coach Gernot Rohr will name his final 23-man squad before taking on Czech on Jun 6 in Austria.
