The Edo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been accused of wooing female voters with wrappers ahead of Saturday, September 19 gubernatorial elections in the state.
A video circulating on social media which was obtained by African News Today showed women queuing up to present their permanent voter cards to a woman believed to be one of the party’s female coordinators. The women were subsequently given wrappers after the validity of their cards were confirmed.
The video which was widely shared by social media users on Tuesday raised concerns from political watchers of the development in Edo state with many condemning the move.
While the party has not issued a statement to take responsibility or debunk the activities shown in the video, it is widely believed to have been an APC gathering as the women in the video spotted the famous ‘POI’ cap – A customized cap used by the campaign train of the APC Governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
It will be recalled that the PDP had earlier raised concerns over the activities of the APC in the state. The PDP candidate, Governor Godwin Obaseki had earlier stated that voters will not be intimidated into voting any candidate.
The Governor who restated this after signing the electoral peace pact on Tuesday added that the party will be expecting a level playing ground for all political parties in the election. He advised all stakeholders to desist from electoral malpractices when they head to the polls on Saturday, 19 September.
