The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata has expressed worry at the measures taken by government against promoters of the #EndSARS protests in Nigeria.
This stance was contained in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday where he condemned the clampdown on prominent campaigners of the #EndSARS protests.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had frozen the bank accounts of about 20 #EndSARS promoters while it was reported that another campaigner, Modupe Odele was stopped from embarking on travel by government officials.
According to Akpata, the actions of government were contrary to its earlier disposition on the issue.
He wrote, “With all that’s going on in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests, lawyers are definitely not smiling! @djswitch_ has gone into hiding after receiving threatening phone calls, Moe Odele’s passport was seized and she has been prevented from travelling outside the country and Rinu Oduala and many others have had their accounts frozen by the CBN…this was not the deal.”
