Dele Momodu, a prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a campaign to undermine and destabilize the opposition party.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Momodu expressed concerns over what he perceives as the APC’s concerted efforts to weaken the PDP.
According to Momodu, the APC is employing various tactics to dismantle the opposition, including attempts to co-opt susceptible individuals, intimidate those who resist, and sow discord within the party’s ranks.
“The APC will do everything possible to destroy opposition; buy those who are buyable, to terrorize those who are not buyable and make sure that the party is in disarray, that is all,” asserted Momodu.
Drawing attention to the paradoxical situation, Momodu highlighted the transition of President Bola Tinubu from an opposition leader to a figure in power, suggesting a shift in attitude towards opposition under the current administration.
“You see part of my admiration for then Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos was the role he played as an opposition leader. But unfortunately, now we have a former opposition leader in government, and they don’t want opposition, it’s an irony,” he remarked.
However, despite the challenges faced by the PDP, Momodu expressed optimism about the party’s ability to overcome internal strife and emerge as a formidable opposition force once again.

He cited efforts by the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, to unify party members and foster a sense of cohesion within the ranks.
Meanwhile, the PDP has been grappling with internal turmoil, particularly since the aftermath of its presidential primary election in 2023 and subsequent defeat in the general elections.
The rift within the party has led to prominent members defecting, with former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha among those who recently resigned from the PDP.
In his resignation statement, Ihedioha cited the party’s failure to effectively fulfill its role as the opposition, attributing much of the discord within the PDP to the alleged interference of the APC.
He asserted that the ruling party had succeeded in subverting the PDP by influencing certain members to disrupt its operations.
