Abdulrasaq Saidu, the General Secretary of the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, ANAP, says the group will join the protest scheduled by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, to demand an end to the lingering ASUU strike and those of other university workers.
Saidu urged President Muhammadu Buhari to take measures to bring an end to the more than five months long strike, noting that it has led to an increase in social vices across the country.
He added that the strike has ridiculed Nigeria’s educational sector and called its integrity into question.

He said, “ASUU, NASU, SAUTHRIAI, NAAT had been on strike for more than five months due to the apparent failure of government to sign the re-negotiated 2009 Agreement with ASUU, failure to honour the terms reached in the May 2022 MoU signed with ASUU, and habitual failure of government to respect Collective Bargaining Agreements willingly signed with labour Unions.”
According to him, aside from students, parents and society are equally suffering from the negative impact of the strike, noting that poor economic condition has also rubbed off on most homes in the country.
He said, “Our children are using eight years to read courses of four years with resources being wasted. We cannot continue this way,” he said.
