The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has once again appealed the judgment of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria which ordered the union to suspend its strike.

Reports say the court was yet to fix a date to officially hear the suit.

Femi Falana, ASUU counsel, stated this in an interview with Punch on Saturday.

According to Falana, the union was still expecting the official hearing date from the appellate court.

Recall that Justice Hamman Polycarp of the Industrial Court had ordered the members of ASUU to return to the classroom.

The union proceeded to file an appeal before the Appeal Court in Abuja. However, the appellate court asked the university teachers to call off the strike before its appeal could be heard.

ASUU heeded the order of the court and suspended its strike on October 13, 2022.

Speaking on the appeal, Falana said the appeal was filed on October 14, 2022.

He said, “The appeal was filed on October 14, 2022. However, no date for hearing yet.”

Commenting on the advice of Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, that ASUU should take CONUA to court over registration, Falana said, “The minister knows that he deliberately committed illegality. He should have gone to court to find out the legality of his proliferation of unions among academic staff in the universities.”
