President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered rescue and relief agencies to mobilise to the site of the boat mishap in Ogbaru Local Government of Anambra State that led to the death of many people.
This was contained in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant n Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
Buhari asked relevant agencies of government to ensure strict compliance to safety protocols by the transport ferries to ensure such mishaps do not reoccur.
The President expressed sadness over the incident and issued a directive for all possible efforts to be made to account for all the passengers.
He said, “I pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for everyone’s safety, as well as the well-being of the family members of the victims of this tragic accident.’’

Similarly, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, has expressed distraught over the damage that has been caused by floods in various parts of the country.
Obi in a statement he personally signed said, “Considering the level of widespread suffering in the land, anything that adds to the suffering of the people, such as the flood is heart-breaking,”
He also noted that the destruction of 10,000 hectares of rice farms belonging to Olams Nigeria Limited in Nassarawa State, by floods, possess a great loss to the country. He said that such losses may result in food scarcity in the future.
