Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 Elections, Peter Obi, on Wednesday, met with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State behind closed doors in the Governor’s private residence in Abuja.
The visit was barely 24 hours after Ortom returned from his two weeks leave and trip to the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Nathaniel Ikyur, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said Obi and Ortom addressed newsmen after their meeting.
Ortom challenged presidential aspirants to prioritise the interest of the country above personal interest. He said the country more than ever needs committed and competent leaders that could address the chaos Nigeria has found herself.
The Benue State Governor expressed confidence in the capacity of Peter Obi to take the country to enviable heights.

The statement read, “Governor Ortom commended the decision of the former Anambra State Governor to engage Nigerians, especially major players in the country’s politics, irrespective of political leaning on his desire to serve as the country’s next President.
“He said even though he was a major stakeholder of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, the LP candidate considered him as a Nigerian to consult on his aspiration.”
Obi said the visit was to consult and show respect to his former political ally in the PDP. According to the Labour Party candidate, his friendship with Ortom supersedes political affiliation.
Responding to a question on the structure of his party to win the presidential election, Obi said millions of Nigerians living in poverty are his structure to win.
