The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that over 200,000 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, will be deployed for the 2023 general elections.
This was disclosed by Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in Umuahia, Abia State.
He said that the BVAS would be deployed in the 176,000 polling units across the country, adding that the surplus will be kept handy as a reserve.
He said, “We will have one BVAS reserve in every Registration Area Centre (RAC) to ensure immediate intervention in case of any failure.”

He assured the commission’s capacity to conduct a free and fair election in 2023, noting that the electoral umpire is determined to replicate the achievements recorded in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections.
Speaking on the deadline for Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, he maintained that the July 31 deadline will not be extended.
He advised Nigerians who wish to register not to engage in double or multiple registrations as such amounts to criminal offences that are punishable.
He added, “At the end of the CVR, the commission will carry out a de-duplication to remove double and multiple registrations.”
