Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has stated that Nigerian traders in Ghana affected by the stringent business regulations by the Ghana government will get justice.
Osinbajo who stated this yesterday Tuesday 16, September while meeting with representatives of the Nigerian community in Ghana added that bureaucracy is part of the reasons there has been a delay in resolving the issue.
He however added that the discussions between the two countries was reaching a fruitful point and soon, all parties will be informed of the resolutions.
A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in the Office of the Vice-President, Mr. Laolu Akande, said the meeting was held at the official residence of the Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana.
The statement outlined that the meeting focused on the various challenges faced by Nigerians living in Ghana which involved the sealing of several shops belonging to Nigeria citizens.
Osinbajo while responding to some issues which were raised by leaders of the Nigerian community which bothered on the ill treatment of Nigerians by the Ghanaian authorities, Osinbajo restated the efforts of the Federal Government to ensure that Nigerians are justly treated.
“I will certainly convey the depth of your grievances to the President. I am sure that he will be deeply disturbed to hear that despite the assurances that he had received (from the Ghanaian government), there are still problems and complications,” he said.
Addressing Nigerians in Ghana, the Vice-President said: “I look forward to getting the details and making sure that we are able to begin to resolve some of these issues as quickly as possible. But I think you must also recognize that, generally speaking, governments tend to be very slow, processes are slow, bureaucracies are slow.
“But we will make sure that we do the very best we can to get you your rights so that, at least, you are dealt with justly.” He concluded.
